Winter has well and truly arrived, and Gunnamatta Surf Beach has been producing some serious Australian Salmon action!
We've been getting amongst some fantastic schools of salmon, with big fish pushing into the high 50cm range and plenty of solid fish hitting the sand. Winter is a prime time for targeting Australian Salmon along Victoria's surf beaches, and Gunnamatta is one of the Peninsula's standout locations.
Big Schools, Hungry Salmon & Plenty of Action
As the high tide pushes in, big schools of salmon have been moving close to the beach, chasing baitfish through the gutters and working the surf. When the schools arrive, the action can switch on quickly.
And when those salmon hit, they mean business!
We've had fish into the high 50s being landed, with plenty of hard-fighting salmon keeping our guests busy from the first few casts.
Blue & Green Surf Poppers Doing the Damage
One setup that's been working particularly well has been our blue and green surf popper rigs.
The combination has been producing plenty of attention when the salmon are feeding close to shore, and it's been awesome watching guests connect with their first-ever Australian Salmon.
Gunnamatta's deeper gutters and channels are classic areas for salmon to move through, particularly when schools are following bait along the beach.
